The Mercenary Pen grew out of a desire to make professional historical research and editorial assistance readily available outside of, but still in touch with, academia.
Chloe Massarello graduated summa cum laude with a BA in history from Portland State University (PSU) and went on to complete her MA in medieval history at PSU. Her thesis was the PSU nominee and one of three finalists for the 2012 Western Association of Graduate Schools and University Microfilms International Distinguished Master's Thesis Award. As a graduate student, Chloe had the opportunity to serve as an editorial fellow at the Pacific Historical Review, where she held lead responsibility for several prize-winning articles. She currently holds memberships in the Northwest Independent Editors Guild and the Medieval Academy of America.
